surviving sustainability:Y3K

Together with artist James Deutsher, ffiXXed produced a ceramic tureen fused with images representing different positions in relations to lifestyle and consumerism, each elaborating their own modes of sustainability. The work was conceived for the Victorian State of Design Festival and presented as part of a solo exhibition by Kain Picken. Prior to the exhibition the piece was activated in a domestic dinner setting, calling in to question the modes of living and the producer/consumer behaviors enacted by its creators. The tureen is itself a signifier of a certain socio-economic position, suggesting the often privileged fields of discussion that popular notions of sustainability flow through.
