Back to the Land
This collection takes contradictory impulses as a starting point. As the appropriated t-shirt design from San Francisco ‘zine Cometbus indicates, the first of these is to go “back t the land”. This vogue for attempting to return to a pre-industrial or sustenance lifestyle is associated with 1960s and 1970s counter-culture. In such a situation, the focus is obviously on the most practical fashion concerns of warmth, comfort and protection. The second impulse is a desire for the “centre”, journeying to the industrial , economic and social centres of major world cities. Surely in this environment , good style, subtle to the point of invisibility, is key?
Between these polarities of hyper capitalism and primivitists urges are the basic question: where are our bodies most comfortable?
ffiXXed has no intentions of providing any answers. These clothes will be comfortable companions for either journey
